Biography

Taekyun Park (b. 1995) is a South Korean composer whose catalogue moves between the orchestral, the choral, and the intimate. He holds a Bachelor of Music in Music Composition from Kyungsung University, where he studied with Jonguk Kim and Sungnam Yang. In September 2026 he begins graduate study at New England Conservatory in Boston, reading for the Master of Music in Music Theory and Composition.

In 2024 he was awarded the Absolute First Prize at the UK International Music Competition, together with First Prize in its Professional (No Age Limit) Composition division, and Second Prize at the Vivaldi International Music Competition. The previous year he received the Absolute First Prize at the Van Bach International Music Competition.

His works are titled like coordinates on a journey. A Small Sailboat on Serene Sea for orchestra, Journey to the Inner Universe with Voyager 1 for string quartet, From Everest to the Pacific Ocean for piano. Recent years have brought a Mass for a cappella and Invisible Love for soprano, chorus, piano, and orchestra, both premiered in South Korea in 2025.

Park's relationship to the voice runs through the whole catalogue. He has sung in the Chorus of Busan-jin Church since 2019 and was a member of the Kyungsung Chorus from 2014 to 2020, appearing in the university's annual concerts and in Busan Opera Week. Since 2024 he has served as arranger for the Busan-jin Church Chorus, and has written for the Busan Education Choral Festival and for the Busan Nam-gu Boys and Girls Choir, including a family production of Hansel and Gretel.
